You can pick up any travel magazine, and this is what you will find. ‘Copenhagen is one of the best cities, not just in Europe but in the world.’ The city has a vibrant cycling culture, booming economy, beautiful weather, and eye-soothing infrastructure.

It is no surprise that it is the happiest city in the world.

When I decided to take my 1st trip to Copenhagen, the enormous size of the city left me bewildered. Which area is better for travelers? Which hotels to choose? Comparing a hundred options to only be left more confused.

Thankfully, now I have spent enough time in this city to know everything about it. So, I have curated a list of the best hotels in Copenhagen to fit everyone’s pocket and preferences.

Copenhagen has 10 small districts in the city. Each is unique with its own vibe and atmosphere. You can do so much in each area that you can’t get enough.

The most popular areas I love are Indre By( old town), Vesterbro, Osterbro, and Nyhavn (if you love to see the beautiful wooden ships). Also, you can stay in Christianshavn with your partner, which I personally think is the most romantic area in the city.

Earlier I used to think that, after all, it is one city. Living in any area is one and the same thing. But only when I ventured deep into the city did I realize that all these areas are so different. All of them have their own characteristics and attractions. It is almost like they are living entities.

What is the Best Place to Stay in Copenhagen for first-timers?

Nyhavn

When I visited for the first time, I had no idea about the city. Now, I know that if I ever get a chance to do this all over again, Nyhavn or Old town will be my first choice. This area is in the heart of the city.

Nyhavn means ‘inner-city’ in the local language, and all the city’s main attractions are located in this area. Imagine the beauty of the oldest parts of the historic city when surrounded by ports and lakes.

You will find everything here, from high street brands, restaurants, cafes, local pubs, and bars. All these are located within walking distance in Nyhavn. If you stay in this area, add visiting Amalienborg Palace, home to the Danish royal family, to your list.

Best Hotels in Nyhavn

If you are looking for a budget-friendly option in the city’s center, Wakeup Copenhagen Borgergade is your best friend. The hotel has Wifi, modern rooms with private bathrooms, and every tourist attraction is hardly a 5-10 minute walk from here.

Steel house Copenhagen is yet another decently priced option. This is a hostel, and the whole vibe is trendy. The entire hostel is beautifully designed with modern amenities.

If you want a hint of Danish luxury during your stay, I suggest you go to Nobis Hotel Copenhagen, a Member of Design Hotels. It is vintage, elegant, and classic. The hotel offers a variety of amenities to make your stay memorable.

What is the Best Place to stay in Copenhagen for nightlife?

Vesterbro

You must have heard a lot about the vibrant nightlife of the city. It is one of the best in Europe. Vesterbro is the ideal place for experiencing the best nightlife in Copenhagen. The previous red light area is now revamped into this hip, trendy, and vibrant part of the city.

You can enjoy tasteful cocktails, a glass of your favorite wine, or a crazy dance party. I got to interact with the young locals and pub-crawl through different wineries and bars. This was more than enough to make my night a wild one.

The area is all about old-school gritty vibes, and one experiences old Copenhagen’s raw and unadulterated side. You will find many old tattoo parlors, cool hipster bars, and strip clubs while walking through the streets of Vesterbro.

There is never a quiet time in the busy streets of Vesterbro. During the daytime, you will see people shopping and exploring art galleries in the famous Værnedamsvej. And, at night, head to Meatpacking District; the party scenes here are insane with an endless list of clubs.

You can choose from a variety of top-class accommodations here. From hostels, luxury hotels, easy on pocket hostels.

The budget-friendly option here is Cityhub Copenhagen. It is located very close to Tivoli Gardens. The accommodation is fully air-conditioned with an on-site bar and sauna. They also provide a space for a typical kitchenette for all guests.

You will be fascinated to see guests making their beer, chatting, and mingling with other guests.

Villa Copenhagen is located just across the train stations and within walking distance from the Meatpacking district. It is cozy, luxurious, and stylish, with top-notch service.

Lastly, Absalon Hotel is another excellent option in this area. This is a family-run hotel featuring modern rooms with vibrant decor. They have mouth-drooling breakfast options like Danish pastries and gluten-free bread.

What is the Best Place to stay in Copenhagen with a family?

Osterbro

Even though the city of Copenhagen is known for its parties and nightlife. I assure you, you did not make the wrong choice when you decided to come to Copenhagen for a family trip. The city has so much to offer to make your whole family happy.

I was pleasantly surprised to see my family happy when we were all here. Which is rare if you know my family.

Anyway, Osterbro is the district with plenty to offer for family vacations. It is in the northern part of Copenhagen. And this is one of the wealthiest parts of the city. With the whole vibe that is very laid-back and easy-going, this area will surely make you feel at peace even in the hustle-bustle of city life.

The area is famous for its lakes and parks. As well as the statue of the Little Mermaid is a very famous landmark in the city.

Little Mermaid

The highlight for me is that lakes surround Osterbro on three sides. And a beautiful parkland (6 km) is located in the center. During summers, many people spend their weekends renting boats on the lakes.

You and I both know the excitement children feel seeing boats and lakes. There is also a weekly flea market on the weekends. They are great for buying local clothing, footwear, and souvenirs.

Below are my favorite hotels in the area.

And, for a modern and homely vibe, Charlottehaven is the best choice. They have fully-furnished, serviced apartments with an on-site cafe.

The building has a 24×7 fitness center, which means staying healthy even during vacations. The sandy beach Svanemølle is within 10 minutes of walking distance.

What is the Best Place to stay in Copenhagen for a True Experience?

Frederiksberg

Frederiksberg is the area you should live in if you want to experience Copenhagen in the true danish style. Imagine living in an area home to the smallest European hotel, Central Hotel & Cafe.

It has its commune, and the streets are beautiful and colorful. The whole place is village-like, laid-back, and relaxing. The area is an amalgamation of open spaces, enormous shopping malls, tree-covered streets, elegant restaurants, trendy cafes, and hip bars.

There is so much to do in this area. You can visit King Frederik VI’s summer retreat, Frederiksberg Palace. Enjoy Italian architecture in this palace, built in 1799.

You can take a trip on the canal row boats enjoying the majestic views of the hilltop Frederiksberg Palace and the Royal Teahouse.

I used to go to Frederiksberg Park to read a book in the vast 160-acre park. You can also plan a picnic brunch with your friends and family.

Now, if you are wondering about the accommodations here. Do not worry! I have got you covered.

Norrebro

We have all had days when we want to travel, but all we have is a low budget. I say you take this trip anyway. Because Norrebro will only make you happy about this decision. This is the most budget-friendly area in Copenhagen.

And it is not sad budget-friendly in any way. It is the hip and independent kind of budget-friendly. You will find youngsters, solo travelers, party animals, and various nomads here. The place is super trendy, hip, and multi-cultured.

Norrebro is the most populated area with so much to do here. It is not just about the historical museums or art galleries here. It is about the whole friendly atmosphere of Norrebro.

This is foodie heaven, with many cafes and restaurants lined at Jægersborggade Street. You can shop for great designer items at Elmegade.

Many designer boutiques and small stores in the area sell footwear, clothes, and jewelry.

Hotel Nora Copenhagen is an exceptional choice in Norrebro. This is a 3-star hotel serving complimentary beer to its guests. I think it is enough reason for me to stay here. Additionally, the rooms are clean and have free Wi-Fi throughout the property.
