Everyone knows that Italians are a clean people. But how do they stay so squeaky clean?

The reason is the Bidet, which has been around since Ancient Rome and still remains in most homes today.

The Bidet is essentially a “mini-shower” for your butt after going to the bathroom. It uses water pressure to wash away any fecal matter on your anus and genitals (in case you missed it).

Italians use the Bidet because it helps keep them clean, especially after they go to the bathroom. Most models are easy to install and maintain, plus they are much more cost-effective than using toilet paper!

Are bidets mandatory in Italy?

No, it’s not. However, I’ve never been in an Italian bathroom without a Bidet; virtually every family has one.

In my opinion, I think that Bidet is more hygienic; using toilet paper, you can sometimes miss some parts of the body and then cause infections, but with Bidet, you can clean yourself thoroughly.

Do people outside of Italy ever use the Bidet?

Developed in the Far East, the Bidet made its way to Italy through France. It is a part of the toileting habits in several European countries, but it is also widely used in Japan and South Korea.

Spain and Portugal are also massive users of Bidets. Nowadays, even Americans take up this ancient tradition because they realize its effectiveness than toilet paper.

The first Bidets arrived in the States during World War II, and now it’s used mainly by those who suffer from hemorrhoids.

Bidets are the most-used, even in Japan, where they differ from the Italian variety and are more technological.

Other countries are Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil, where Bidet is very popular.

How to use a Bidet in Italy?

"How

How does it work? There are two ways of using the Bidet: sitting on it or crouching over it.

  • In the first case, you will have to start with an electronic or hand bidet and then follow up with some toilet paper just in case.

  • We recommend using a footstool in the second case so that your feet don’t slip off and get wet!

How can I install a Bidet?

The installation of a Bidet is easy if you have the right tools.

In fact, all models are designed to be installed very quickly and easily by almost anyone without further assistance.

As long as the plumbing works well, installing a Bidet is not complicated or expensive. Keep in mind that if you’re renting a home, it is best to make sure you’re allowed to install one in the bathroom before starting any project.
